Assistantships

A limited number of assistantships are available through the Mechanical Engineering Department and in other offices across campus. Graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis, and may include tuition waivers, stipends, or a combination of the two.

Depending on your assistantship, you will be required to work 10-20 hours a week, assisting with grading, monitoring laboratories, and assisting professors with grant-based research projects. If you are interested in working in a specific research area, we encourage you to contact the professor conducting the research directly.

You are automatically considered for an assistantship if you have a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and have been accepted to the MSME program. If you do not have a BS in mechanical engineering, you will be required to complete 75 percent of your leveling courses before you will be determined eligible.

Other funding may be available from individual professors who have externally sponsored research projects.
