Dr. Faisal Awarded LTRC TIRE Grant

Dr. Tanvir Faisal, Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering has won Transportation Innovation for Research Exploration (TIRE) grant sponsored by Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) for his project titled “Design and development of architected cellular core structure to enhance the structural performance of SPS bridge decks”.  Sandwich Plate System (SPS) traditionally consists of steel faceplates bonded to a polyurethane core, a relatively new concept built upon sandwich-structured deck. The goal of the project is to design the core materials with architected cellular structuring to provide higher bending and compressive stiffness, reducing weight.
