Top Stories

Faculty, students, and alumni from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have given their time and abilities in helping with COVID-19 relief efforts for the local medical community. Department Head, Dr. Alan Barhorst, lead the project of creating hundreds of face shields that were delivered to the Lafayette General Heath System, along with Instructor, Yasmeen Qudsi. More on that here. The story was featured on KLFY, including Assistant Professor, Jonathan Raush, and MCHE alumni, Matthew Fanguy, who helped with this project.

In additon, mechanical engineering students from the Ragin Rocketry team are using their 3D-printer to create and deliver ear guards for masks; see image on left. So far, these have been delivered to Women's and Children's Hospital, and the next batch is planned for delivery at Opelousas General Hospital. Paul Pryor, the team president from the Electrical Engineering department, is delivering the masks to the Women's and Children's Hospital in the image on the right.
